Today TechCrunch broke the news of the acquisition of About.me by AOL Consumer Applications Group.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed but it was in the “tens of millions of dollars”. They also mention “This is also the best news in world for competitor flavors.me, which has a similar product. Other buyers will likely be taking a long look at them shortly.”

AOL Acquires Personal Profile Startup About.Me

I am genuinely pleased that the news has broken for Tony Conrad and the About.me team as it validates the need for this service for every person and organization, everywhere. There are only three serious players in the personal profile Website space, about.me, flavors.me and of course follr.com. If others do in fact follow AOL’s lead then things could become very interesting indeed for follr.

Instead of leaving others to research you via search engines follr provides a memorable personal Website address for all your important information that YOU assemble and arrange appropriately. Add your follr.me address to your email signature and use it as your Twitter link as a site that represents “all of you’ and is also a starting point to find out more.

Follr works tremendously well in this regard for both individuals and organizations of any size. Follr also allows organizations to run their own branded version with full analytics distinguishing us from any competition.

We think this news bodes very well for the future of follr.com.
